Road Details The Bwlch y Groes is a steep andchallenging route with tight bends and sharp inclines. So, if you fancy a bit of a challenge before the end of summer, head to Bwlch y Groes. For a strenuous walk or bike ride, or just a low-gear drive offering spectacular views of one of the most stunning parts of Wales, Bwlch y Groes will not disappoint. “In fact, it’s one of the steepest, toughest and most spectacular climbs in the country. It’s one of the truly definitive climbs, and the road is unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles. If you cycle up this mountain pass, you’ll count every rev. And if you walk up, it will seem more like a lung-busting run.

The structure originally stood 30 metres high (90 ft) with a large octagonal lantern on top of the tower. The newspaper referenced one particular section which gains 385 metres in height in just over two miles, making it possibly the hardest bit of tarmac to cycle in Britain. Add on a gourmet food and wine package, and you’ve got yourself the ultimate escape.

Starting andending in Betws-y-Coed, this loop features winding roads, lakes, and mountainviews. Key highlights include stops at Llanberis and Bala lake, providingbreathtaking photo opportunities. It takes you along the east coast, past Chanonry Point, historic castles, and to the northernmost point at John O’Groats. The journey winds through Lochinver and Assynt, where you can explore some of Scotland’s best beaches, and finishes with the Bealach na Bà mountain pass on the Applecross Peninsula.
